School -Term 2008-2009 Payment Rules
- You may choose to pay your tuition monthly or yearly. A 5% discount will be given on yearly tuition paid in full by September 30, 2008. Pre-paid tuition minus the 5% discount is refundable if proper Drop Procedures are followed. Please note that yearly tuition must be paid by cash or check only. No credit cards will be accepted. First and Last Month’s tuition (September & June) are due upon registration. The final month’s tuition is refundable if proper Drop Procedures are followed (see #17 below). Please note that June tuition will not be refunded for any class or classes dropped after May 15, 2009.
- Monthly tuition payments are due on the first of the month. If your monthly tuition has not been paid in full by the tenth of the month, a $20.00 late fee will be added to your account. A $20.00 late fee will be added to each month’s tuition for a balance that is left unpaid. SBDC does not send out statements unless the payment is late. Partial tuition payments will be considered late and fees will be assessed..
- Monthly tuition may be paid via our automatic credit card billing system from your credit card or debit card account. The Automatic Recurring Payment Agreement form may be picked up at the front desk. Everyone wishing to pay via automatic credit card billing must fill out a new form for the School-Term 2008-2009 Session. Form must be completed and submitted to the front desk at least two weeks prior to the beginning of a new month. Recurring charges will be automatically processed on the first of each month. Please note, by enrolling in the Automatic Recurring Payment Agreement you are authorizing SBDC to charge for all costume deposits on November 1st, 2008, as well as all costume balances on April 1st, 2009 (or when costume balances become available). Customers signed up for the Automatic Recurring Payment Agreement will have tuition and other applicable fees deducted through May 2009. We will not keep credit card information on file after this date.
- If tuition has not been paid by the 15th of the month, students may be asked to sit out of class.
- SBDC dismisses students with delinquent accounts of two months. Students may re-enroll for the current session on a space availability basis once their account is paid in full.
- Accounts are to be paid in full (including tuition, late fees, bank charges, outstanding costume charges, etc.) in order for students to participate in the annual Story Ballet Production, Spring Repertory Concert, June Showcase, Master Classes, workshops, or to register for a new term.
- No costumes will be given to students with overdue balances.
- There is a $20.00 fee on all returned checks. We will be unable to accept checks from customers who bounce two checks during the school-term session. Subsequent payments to SBDC must be made by cash or credit card.
- Make checks payable to South Bay Dance Center or SBDC. PLEASE PUT THE STUDENT’S NAME ON THE CHECK to insure proper credit to your account.
- Receipts will be given to customers paying by cash only. Customers needing a credit card or other receipt may receive one upon request.
- There is no change in payment or discounts given for classes missed. Classes missed due to illness or family conflicts may be made up within one month of the missed class. Make up class must be the same type of class as missed and the same level or lower. Tuition must be current in order to make up missed classes.
- Credits for missed class(es) can only be made for prolonged illness, verified by a doctor’s certification within 30 days of the missed class(es). Credits are at the discretion of SBDC staff.
- Please note that tuition is based on a school-term tuition annual fee (September to June). The 10 equal monthly installments are for your convenience and ease in bookkeeping. The total number of weeks (including holidays) has been calculated in determining the total cost for the term. They do not reflect the number of classes in any given month as some months have five weeks and some have two weeks.
- June Showcase Participation Contracts and Costume Deposits are due November 1, 2008 for any students wishing to participate in the June Showcase. Payment plans are available for families owing four or more costume deposits. Deposits are non-refundable after December 1, 2008. A $10.00 late fee will be added to your account for each costume deposit left unpaid by December 10, 2008, or by January 10, 2009 for those participating in our payment plan.
- You are responsible to check the bulletin board in April for your costume balance, to be paid with your April tuition.
- Changes to costume orders due to customer error or class changes after January 15, 2008 will be subject to additional fees.
- Registration/insurance fees are non-refundable.
- SBDC requires students wishing to add, change, or drop classes to do so by completing an Add/Drop form. Add/Drop forms can be picked up at the front desk. Forms must be completed and signed by an adult age 18 or over. Changes may NOT be made over the phone or verbally at the front desk. Drop forms must be submitted to SBDC two weeks prior to dropping the class, otherwise customer will be responsible for any outstanding balances that assess. Please note that a $5 processing fee will be charged per class add/drop after five changes.
- June Showcase tickets will be $12.00 per ticket. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis beginning June 8, 2009. Accounts must be paid in full to purchase tickets.

Class Cards

Class cards are for adult students only. Cards may be used towards any length class as long as the class is not full and has available space. Class cards are non-refundable and are non-transferable. Class cards are good for six months from the original date of purchase.

Class Requirements
- Students must have teacher’s permission to enroll in any level IB class or higher.
- Students are encouraged to attend class on a regular basis. Good attendance is required for all students who wish to be considered for advancement and for participation in SBDC productions.
- Ballet dancers in level IIA or higher are required to attend two ballet classes a week (not including pre-pointe or pointe).
- Ballet dancers in level III or higher are required to attend three ballet classes a week (not including pre-pointe or pointe).
- Pre-pointe students must be working at level IIA or higher, and have teacher’s permission.
- Pointe I and II students are required to attend two ballet classes and two pointe classes a week.
- Pointe III and IV students are required to attend three ballet classes and two pointe classes a week, to include one technique class taken entirely en pointe.
- South Bay Ballet Arts Company Members have additional requirements. Please refer to the SBBA Company Member contract.
- Jazz students in level IIA or higher are required to be enrolled in and regularly attending a ballet class.
- Jazz III and IV students must be enrolled in two jazz classes per week.
- Modern II students must be enrolled in and attending a ballet and jazz class, working at a level IIA or higher in either ballet or jazz and have teacher’s permission. Modern III/IV students must be enrolled in and attending a ballet and jazz class and have teacher’s permission.
- Students must have teacher’s approval to enroll in Beg/Int or Int/Adv Jazz Technique. These classes are considered “open division” and do not have any additional class requirements.

- Beg/Int Ballet or Jazz Technique students should be working at SBDC’s level IB or higher, Int/Adv Ballet or Jazz Technique students should be working at SBDC’s level IIB or higher, or the equivalent of these levels.
- Ballet students working at the level IIC or above and unable to commit to multiple ballet classes during the week may attend Int/Adv Ballet Technique or one Ballet IIA or IIB/IIC Technique class per week to fulfill their ballet requirements for jazz or modern. These students will not be considered eligible to perform ballet in SBDC productions.
- Students wishing to participate in SBDC’s ballet productions must be enrolled in the appropriate level ballet class at SBDC and meeting the minimum requirements.
- The opening number for June Showcase 2008 will be made up of South Bay Ballet Arts and Pure Dance company members. Members must be fulfilling their company requirements to participate.
- Pilates Reformer students must be enrolled in a Ballet IIA class or higher, or have teacher’s permission to attend.
- All students enrolled in classes (except Pilates, Adult Ballet Workout, Adult Jazz Workout, Zumba, Creative Dance or technique classes) are encouraged to participate in the June Showcase. Choreography will be done during class time. Students not participating in the June Showcase may not be able to fully participate in some aspects of class.
Studio Policies
- A minimum of 5 students must be enrolled in order to keep a class on the schedule. If class is cancelled we will attempt to place your child in another class/time at their level.
- SBDC reserves the right to engage a qualified substitute teacher when the regular teacher cannot attend.
- SBDC is not responsible for children who are not enrolled at the studio. Please do not leave children unattended.
- The studio doors open 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the first scheduled class. SBDC will not be responsible for students who arrive before this time.
- To protect the safety of our students, SBDC requires that they arrive and depart as close to the scheduled class times as possible. SBDC requires students to be picked up no later than 15 minutes after the end of their class. We are not set up to provide childcare, so families with an ongoing problem following this policy may be subject to additional fees or dismissal.
- Please respect our learning environment. Students who are waiting for class, siblings and parents please help to keep the lobby area distraction-free for ongoing classes. Any person who is causing a distraction may be asked to leave the premises. This policy will be strictly enforced.
- No food or drinks (except plastic water containers with lids) allowed in the dance studios or carpeted areas.
- Students enrolled in class for multiple hours may eat only on the tiled lobby area. All trash from food or drinks must be disposed of in the outside rubbish bin.
- NO GUM ALLOWED.
- No running in the studios or the lobby.
- Students should be prepared to follow the studio dress code. A student who continually refuses to follow the dress code may be asked to sit out of class.
- It is each student’s responsibility to check with his or her teacher about specific dress code requirements.
- No jewelry is to be worn in class except stud earrings.
Dress Code
- Ballet -- Girls should wear black leotards, light pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Hair must be secured neatly off the back of the neck in a bun. Boys are to wear white tee shirts, gray or black footless tights, white socks and white or black ballet shoes.
- Ballet/Tap combination students should wear simple black leotards (no skirts or puffed sleeves), light pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black taps. Hair must be secured neatly off the back of the neck.
- Jazz and Tap students should wear appropriate fitted dance attire (all black for level IIA or lower) with the proper technique shoes (black). Hair must be secured neatly off the back of the neck. Tights or jazz pants should be worn, no bare legs, full-length sweats or boxer shorts. All tights or pants must be below the knee.
- Modern students should wear appropriate dance attire of any color, bare feet. Hair must be secured neatly off the back of the neck.
- Hip-Hop students may wear comfortable fitted clothing and tennis shoes. No jeans, shorts or overly baggy sweats. All pants must be below the knee. Sneakers must be worn indoors only, clean and free of debris. No black rubber soles that leave marks. Hair should be secured away from the face.
- Pilates students are encouraged to wear leotards and footless tights, leggings or biker shorts to ensure proper technique. Hairstyle must enable student to lie comfortably on back (low ponytails work well).
